Dear Customer: There are two important issues that may affect your heating and air con-

ditioning system.  We want to make you aware of these issues.  If you have any questions

or would like more information, don't hesitate to contact us at 314-872-8070.

1. Effective May, 2013, any new furnace installed in Missouri or Illinois must have an efficiency of

at least 90%.  This means that those furnaces MUST be vented with PVC pipe and cannot utilize

the existing metal flue.  There are many situations where due to a finished lower level or other

configuration, it is going to be difficult or nearly impossible to run PVC pipe to the exterior.  If you

have a furnace that is 15 years old or older and you feel you may have a situation where it will be

difficult to install the PVC venting, we STRONGLY suggest you consider replacing your furnace at

this time.  Please call us at 314-872-8070 and we will gladly do a free evaluation of your homes

situation and, if appropriate, provide you with a quote to make the changes we feel would be in

your best interest.  For those needing/wanting to replace their furnace this year, if it is practical

to install the necessary PVC venting, then we strongly urge you to consider installing a 90+%

furnace.  This way your furnace will not be outdated efficiency wise shortly after it is installed.

2. Recently the EPA issued a ruling that says that manufacturers of R22 refrigerant

(aka Freon or R22) may only manufacture 55% of the refrigerant 22 in 2012 as they did in

2011.  When this ruling was announced to the public, the price of R22 refrigerant more than

doubled within two days time.  While we don't believe the prices will remain at that level, there

is no doubt that the price of refrigerant 22 in 2012 is going to be considerably greater than it 

has been in the past.  Therefore, if you have an A/C system which regularly requires the addition

of Freon(R 22), we strongly recommend that you consider having that system replaced with a

new system which utilizes R410A refrigerant, which was not affected by the government's

manufacturing restrictions.  We can assure you that the cost to add R22 to an existing system

is going to be extremely higher than it has ever been.
